HISTORY OF THE FACULTY OF MEDICINE
The establishment of the Medical Study Program at Gorontalo State University began with the proposal for the Opening of a Medical Education Study Program submitted to the Ministry of Research, Technology, and Higher Education in 2009. However, this process did not continue because there was a Moratorium on the opening of the Medical Education Study Program by DIKTI in 2010.In 2015, a moratorium was lifted on proposals for the opening of a Medical Education Study Program, requiring more complex requirements. This process was hampered by the fact that Gorontalo State University's institutional accreditation had not yet been issued at the time of the document assessment. In September 2017, the Ministry of Research, Technology, and Higher Education reopened registration for the Medical Education Study Program. The proposal for the opening of the Medical Education Study Program at UNG was resubmitted. The application process received guidance from the Faculty of Medicine, Hasanuddin University, as a partner faculty. After all processes and requirements were met, a field assessment was conducted on January 9, 2019, to assess eligibility and readiness, as well as confirmation of documents, facilities, and infrastructure, and a review of the Teaching Hospital. On January 10, the operational permit for the opening of the Undergraduate Medical Study Program and the Professional Doctor Education Study Program was issued based on Decree Number 1/KTP/2019, which was submitted directly by the Minister of Research, Technology, and Higher Education to the Chancellor of UNG on January 24, 2019. After the operational permit for the study program was issued, the Chancellor issued Decree No. 1215/UN47/HK.02/2019 concerning the implementation of the Medical Study Program at Gorontalo State University, directly under the Chancellor. The Medical Study Program at Gorontalo State University began accepting new students for the 2019/2020 academic year, with a quota of 50 students. This first intake of students is limited to two pathways: the National Selection for State Universities (SBMPTN) and Independent Admission. A total of 467 applicants from various provinces across Indonesia have registered. To date, the Medical Study Program has accepted three classes of 50 students each. The total number of students currently stands at 150. New student admissions are conducted through three stages: SNMPTN (National Selection for State Universities), SBMPTN (National Selection for State Universities), and Independent Admissions. On March 5, 2021, the Rector's Decree No. 281/O/2021 of the Faculty of Medicine, UNG, was issued, which was followed by the Inauguration of the Faculty of Medicine Leadership in September 2021.At the beginning of the establishment of the Medical Study Program in 2019, the teaching staff in the study program was 40 permanent lecturers, most of whom had a Master's degree (34 lecturers), a Doctorate (1 lecturer), and a Bachelor's degree (5 lecturers). Currently, there are 33 Master's/specialist lecturers, 3 Doctoral lecturers, and 4 Bachelor's/Doctoral lecturers. To meet the number of lecturers, recruitment of lecturers with general practitioner qualifications who are prepared to pursue a Master's education is proposed to meet the need for biomedical lecturers. Of these 40 lecturers, 17 are permanent lecturers with NIDN and have teaching certificates, and 23 have NIDK. The current teaching staff is 17 people, most of whom are contract employees, 13 people, and 4 educational staff who are civil servants.
